Training at HED College for women Rawalpindi

The SEC training has given teachers the confidence and skills to use the ActivBoard in a variety of ways. They now focus on relating learning to real-life situations by using the board to access various resources on the internet, including downloading interactive flipcharts from www.PrometheanPlanet.com, and incorporating these into their lessons. “In addition, some teachers scan students’ work, display it on-screen, and edit it with the help of the whole class. Teachers also like being able to bring up ‘yesterday’s’ lesson to begin ‘today’s’ lesson, as it helps students to reflect more easily on their previous learning.”  An arts teacher whose computer illiterate and was unaware about the use of technology in Education. Since SEC incorporated Promethean technology into teaching and learning, she has been engage and motivated to learn about it. The SEC training provide her an opportunity to use IWB. With the help of fellow teacher now she can utilize a range of interactive software tools and can relate learning to real-life situation by using board to access various resource on internet, including downloading interactive flip chart and incorporating these into her lessons plan. In evaluation process she demonstrated her own developed comprehensive lesson plan as per TPACK Criteria. “Interactive white board has given a whole new dimension to the teaching and learning experience. Now, virtually all lessons are introduced using interactive flipcharts that can be highlighted and manipulated using an innovative range of software tools. As a result, students are more engaged in their learning and are keen to explore the ActivBoard for themselves She Added”

Aim of the trainings

SEC-Consultant has designed and implemented trainings on capacity building of the partner College for women, teachers. The aim of the training was to enable the teachers to understand and adopt new technology in education and explore their own issues of trust, acceptance and understanding. The course also provides an opportunity to see issues and constraints in regards with the teaching methodology, improve teaching skill, how to construct appropriate lesson plan in pedagogical frame work.

The HED nominated 17 (68%)computer literate teachers and 8 (32%) Computer Illiterate teachers on 3rd day of the training`

Lesson Plan

One of the main objectives of the training was to encourage and facilitate teachers to develop their own lesson plan using interactive software “Active Inspire” However; it was found that 76% teachers developed their own lesson plan as per TPACK framework. The remaining 24% teachers were of the view that they do not have technological facilities such as computers at home or can spare time for using IWB to develop their own lesson.

Principal recommendation

All classrooms in College should be equipped with Activclassroom technologies There should be a sanctioned post of IT expert, with training and support Wider opportunities for teacher training and Professional Development should be developed More electronic lesson materials should be developed, such that the whole curriculum and student’s age range can be covered.

Participants Evaluation

Pre, Post-testing was conducted during training on use of IWB to help answer some of the basic questions. The Pre, post-testing method attempted to better quantify the learners’ baseline knowledge and what they gained from their training participation. Close ended questionnaire was adopted, such as “in which Browsers images can be added and deleted?” with response options to which the participants could circle given answers.” This allowed participants to answer all the questions. The data for each question was entered and conducted analysis using SPSS Version20.

Participants Feedback

Effectiveness Most of the teachers were an agreement that the technology has been diversifying their teaching strategies by increasing their ICT abilities and confidence. They now have a reason to use a computer, whereas a previous lack of computer access in their college.. The teachers also remarked that new technology has inspired them to be more creative with their lessons–they use it to prepare interactive flipcharts, incorporating a range of media and innovative software tools. Pupils really enjoy lessons with the ActivBoard and are eager to take their turn at using it.

The Active class room helps to maintain a stimulating and successful learning environment. The quality and dynamic nature of lessons, combined with the children’s enthusiasm for using the technology, increase their motivation and participation within lessons that include the following components
